class of the month:
Anusara yoga with Diane Ritucci

thu | 9:15 - 10:30 am

Grow your practice using the 5 Universal Principles of Alignment of Anusara Yoga. These principles will keep you safe and supported and guide you from your heart into the expansion of power and freedom on and off the mat.

Anusara means “‘flowing with grace,” “following your heart.” Anusara uniquely integrates deep spiritual teachings and precise princess of alignment into the practice. This creates a holistic experience for the practitioner. The practice is a celebration of our inherent goodness and the gift of life.

Diane’s passion for teaching lies deep in her desire to share the gift of Yoga. Her heart lies in the connection with her students and her love of teaching.  Join us every Thursday for this open-level class!

POSE OF THE WEEK: headstand

This week's #TovamiPose is Headstand! Sirsasana, or headstand (demonstrated here by Sue of Budding Buddhas) is often one of the first inversions taught in class and can be a tricky posture to take. As with all inversions, it is beneficial for circulation because gravity has an opposite effect when the body is upside down. Headstand is also all-around a great core strengthener and really pushes the student to be mindful of muscle engagement and body placement.

Align your Adjustments: Adjustments Part 2 with Mary Dana Abbott

Sun | Jan 27th | 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Gain clarity and confidence in your teaching with hands-on expert, Mary Dana Abbott. In this workshop we will explore the geometry and dimension of a variety of asanas to build a skillset that allows you to attune your adjustments to what exactly is needed by the student.

Standing poses, twists and hip-openers will be the primary focus of this installment of the workshop.

In addition to building off of what we worked on in part 1*, we look at the bigger scope of asanas here: twists, balances.

*You may still register for this workshop if you did not attend part 1.

Flexibility and Strength in Backbending with Danicia Ambron

Sat | Feb 9 | 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Alignment for your spine is not as easy as standing up tall, and balance inversions are not as easy as practicing them over and over. Muscle attachments and their tightness/weakness can play a role in why you just can’t find the strength to find that arm balance or flexibility to align and execute certain asanas.

Come dive into your Thoracic Spine and Hip Flexors to unlock movement, ease, and BREATH. We will start this workshop in subtle but amazing ROM and then build momentum to begin a wisely constructed flow that can lead to advanced arm balances, pranayama, and basically feeling you are truly in your own body and not just seeking sensation and pushing limits in your yoga practice.

A regular yoga practice is recommended for this workshop and it need not be fancy or acrobatic to reap the benefits.

We have expanded!

Budding Buddhas Yoga & Mindfulness - For all ages

The benefits of yoga for kids are many, including increased focus and concentration, heightened body awareness and self-control, increased flexibility and strength. Yoga for kids helps ease stress and build confidence. It encourages children of all ages to create healthy habits for life.

If I could learn one thing each day, it would be how to love myself and others more fully. With yoga, we will all meet there.

Tovami means community - the name can't be found in a dictionary, nor does it have a country of origin, but has been created. A name to mean community, one letter, one idea, one person at a time. We see everyone as unique and special like Yoga. The focus for us is on building this beautiful yoga community, this "Tovami" honoring yoga as an ancient mindfulness art in our welcoming studio.

People might not expect that I listen to classical music.
